Depression and Anxiety? Hold the big picture!
More than 1/3 of gifted adults (parents of gifted children) surveyed indicated that they suffer from some type of depression, and over 50% indicated a mood or anxiety disorder. From my work with the gifted population, it seems that existential intensity is a major contributor. Yes, education on the subject is needed, because depression and anxiety in the gifted can be misunderstood, misdiagnosed, or not successfully treated. So please, dear ones, shout out and educate–and hold in your heart and mind’s eye the full spectrum of feeling and wonder, look towards all the colors and variances–the big picture–to see, and feel, and hold all the parts of life–the dark, the beautiful, grays, and the colorful.
